It had just crossed the Highlands/Sea Bright Bridge. He chased the car. The driver kept weaving on northbound Route 36. McGrath hit his lights near Waddell Avenue. He got out and talked to the driver, Nicole Husar. He smelled alcohol on her breath. He saw other signs she was impaired. She said she was heading to grab her husband at the ferry. Patrolman Kevin Connor showed up to help. He had her step out for sobriety tests. McGrath did the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus first. He noted no smooth eye tracking. There was jerking at max deviation. It started before 45 degrees. Next came the Walk and Turn. Nicole missed heel-to-toe steps. She turned wrong. She took the wrong count each way. Then the One Leg Stand.
