The clean up is happening right now, but it’s too toxic to remove, so the city’s solution is to bury it. Construction workers are covering the site with just 10 feet of “clean” soil and calling it a day. The cost of this massive cleanup is estimated to be between $185 million and $250 million. This is the worst part. Guess who’s paying for this clean up? The future homeowners. Over 45 years, property taxes from these homes will go to cover the bill. Would you buy a home built on a mine filled with hazardous metals?
