@dustythunder_: “AITA for leaving my wife at a restaurant to pick up a friend from the airport?” #storytime #reddit_tiktok #redditstorytime #redditstories #redditstory
If you consider having to pick up your OWN CHILDREN as a “punishment” then you need to rethink if you actually wanted a family or if you just liked the idea of having a family. “I have other really important people and obligations in my life”. Dude your wife and children should be more important than anyone else in your life.

who the hell travels and then waits till they're at the airport call for a ride? something is really off about that.

Other important people 😳😳🤯. If your wife and kids are not your priority, you need to reevaluate your priorities.

Hold up, he admits he is often too tired to get up and go out to dinner with his wife but he did move his ass with a quickness when his friend needed a ride from the airport... late notice no less? She is so tired of that man.

So, all you saying she should have waited: this was a romantic dinner. HE chose to be late. She would have sat there for over 30 minutes, waiting. He told her his friend is more important. and the friend is an ass for calling OP, a family man, last minute expecting him to drop everything

My aunt and my uncle divorced when I was a child, but neither of them ever remarried. I think they truly loved each other but couldn’t make the marriage work. At his funeral (where my aunt was treated as the grieving widow despite having been divorced for 25ish years), someone told a story about how generous my uncle was because he turned over his paycheck to this friend on a whim while they were hanging out at the bar on a Friday night because the friend was having a financial issue. They said he did things like that all the time. My cousin leaned over and whispered to me, “What they don’t know is that his family’s power bill didn’t get paid that month, and their lights got turned off.” This definitely reminds me of that mentality, always helping out anyone who asks EXCEPT your wife.

There's way more to this. I bet he does this a lot & didn't include it.
Her reaction is most likely to this being consistent behavior.

If you don't water your garden it dies. To me it sounds like he doesn't do much with the childcare duties since he calls it punishment to have to pick them up from the sitters.

Oh, this was NOT the first time. And picking up your own kids is not punishment; it’s parenting.

he considers picking his kids up as "punishment," an extra chore he shouldn't have to do - but clearly he expects that SHE will always pick up the kids and it's not his job??

She probably arranged the babysitter, took them to the babysitter and got there on time. He couldn't be bothered. He takes her for granted and doesn't like her.

The fact that he said they had a thing of going on date night once a week but he skipped the last two weeks because “he was to tired” then being late for this date because a friend called after you already arranged the date with your wife and then say that he have more important people in your life not just her .. yea no dude major ah and no picking up your kids shouldn’t be a punishment

Complaining about picking up HIS children, shows he's not in this marriage and she's obviously doing everything on her own!

Not only should he have turned the friend down, he could have run errands with his wife as a way to spend more time together. When you have busy lives, you find time to spend with each other in other ways

Someone with 2 kids knows the importance of staying connected and having some alone time, he sacrificed that for his friend who could've Ubered home🤷🏾♀️

Most women do not get this mad on a first offense. OP is likely the guy that tries to please everyone equally and doesn't prioritize his family above his friends.

When we travel, we take care of our own transportation because that’s what grown ups do. If I have plans with my husband, I don’t blow that off for anything less than a life threatening family emergency.

So, the friend has never heard of Uber? Or a ride share company that specifically works with folks at airports.
