What if you stopped seeing the avoidant as the monster in your story and started seeing them as emotionally disabled? Not as an insult. Not as a clinical diagnosis. As a way of understanding that some people are functioning with very limited emotional capacity. They may not be able to stay present with difficult feelings. They may repress instead of process. They may struggle to communicate honestly. They may not know how to set boundaries, honor boundaries, repair conflict, tolerate vulnerability, or sustain intimacy. They may say beautiful things in the moment because they want to believe them too. The excitement feels real. The dopamine feels real. The fantasy feels real. But wanting love and having the emotional capacity to sustain love are two very different things. And if someone refuses to develop that capacity, then yes, they may remain profoundly impaired in relationships. Seeing that can change the story. Instead of: “They were evil.” Or: “I was not enough.” You may be able to say: “They were emotionally limited in ways that deeply hurt me.” That does not excuse betrayal. It does not remove accountability. It does not mean you stay. But it can create compassion. And compassion can help loosen the hatred, resentment, and obsession that keep you emotionally tied to them. You can understand someone’s limitations and still say: I cannot build a healthy life with someone who refuses to heal them. That is compassion without self-abandonment. #AvoidantAttachment #AttachmentStyle #Heartbreak #HealingJourney #InnerWork
