The absence of desire is one of the most misunderstood states a human being can experience. On the surface, it sounds like peace — no craving, no longing, no restless wanting pulling you in a hundred directions. And for those who are exhausted by their own appetites, by the endless chase after one more pleasure, one more achievement, one more hit of validation, the absence of desire can seem like the promised land. But when you actually live inside it, you discover that it is not always peaceful. Sometimes it is a desert. Sometimes it is a frozen lake. Sometimes it is the quietest form of suffering there is — not the loud agony of wanting and not getting, but the hollow stillness of not wanting at all. To understand the absence of desire, you must first understand what desire does for us. Desire is the engine of life. It pulls us forward, toward food when we are hungry, toward warmth when we are cold, toward connection when we are lonely, toward creation when we are inspired, toward love when we are open. Desire is the pulse of the soul. It is what makes the future feel like a place worth going to. When desire is present, even in its most painful forms — longing for someone who is far away, yearning for a dream that has not yet come true — there is still a kind of aliveness. You are reaching. You are moving. You are oriented toward something. The absence of desire is the absence of that orientation. It is standing still not by choice but by default, with no compass, no pull, no reason to take a single step in any direction. This state can arise from many sources. Sometimes it is the body's way of protecting itself — after a period of intense striving, of endless wanting and reaching and being disappointed, the system simply shuts down. It is a circuit breaker. It is the psyche saying, "I cannot want anymore right now. It hurts too much." This is the absence of desire that comes from exhaustion, from burnout, from the cumulative weight of hoping and losing. It is not a spiritual achievement; it is a survival mechanism. And the kindest thing you can do in that state is not to force yourself to want again, but to rest, to let the fields lie fallow, to trust that desire will return when the soil is ready. At other times, the absence of desire is a symptom of something deeper — depression, grief, trauma, a slow erosion of meaning. When life loses its color, when nothing tastes like anything, when even the things you once loved feel flat and pointless, you are living in the absence of desire. This is not peace; it is numbness. It is the heart going quiet not because it has found stillness, but because it has been wounded so many times that it has stopped reaching. This kind of absence needs attention. It is not a state to be romanticized. It is a signal that something within you is asking for care, for connection, for a gentle return to aliveness. But there is another kind of absence of desire — one that is not a wound but a doorway. In certain spiritual traditions, the quieting of desire is seen as the beginning of liberation. Not because desire is bad, but because the endless chase after external things keeps us trapped in a cycle of craving and dissatisfaction. When the noise of wanting falls away, even temporarily, you can hear something deeper. You can feel the ground of your own being. You can discover that you are not only your appetites, that there is a self beneath the wanting that is already whole, already at peace, already enough. This is not the cold absence of depression; it is the warm emptiness of presence. It is not that you have stopped living; it is that you have stopped grasping, and in that release, you find a different kind of fullness.
DISCLAIMER: Shoot whatever works for you. S-Log can be a powerhouse if edited and shot correctly. Cine4 will give you a clean, organic look right out of the camera. It handles noise way better in the shadows. It will leave enough room for a creative color grade. S-Log will stretch your 16 million colors to their absolute breaking point on an 8-bit camera. S-Log2 is less aggressive, but you can still see some mud and noise in the shadows. (Even when your overexpose properly) We’re all still learning including me. So yeah…stop letting internet nerds scare you into shooting flat gray files you hate editing. Use what works for you and go make something sick!!!!!! #sony #sonyzve10 #camerasettings #cinematics #camera
