I started writing at an early age, I think I was 7 or 8. I never saw it as something serious, but I still did it. Last year, I thought my writing could finally be something, so I started submitting to literary magazines, but was always rejected. I've not been able to write a full story this year because I'm still reeling from those experiences. Whenever I start, I get to a point and pause, thinking the story isn't good enough, that it will never be published, so I abandon them. Some weeks ago, a friend went through my Substack and messaged me, saying that she loves the subject of my stories and she almost cried because of how she could relate to some of them. I felt happy to hear her say those things, but soon enough, I returned back to feeling sorry for myself.
I've had so many people tell me that I have something special, that my stories are good, but I've still not gotten over what happened, so I just nod my head when they speak, but deep down the doubt still sits. I want to try to move on though.
