Recently I spoke on BBC Radio about having a panic attack and the wider conversation around mum burnout. When the story was shared online, the comments came flooding in. And proved exactly why so many women stay quiet. Not because they're looking for sympathy, but because they're afraid of being judged for struggling. The irony is that this isn’t even about me. Research shows that 93% of mothers have experienced some level of parental burnout. So if this conversation resonates with so many women, the problem isn't individual mums failing to cope, it's that the expectations placed on mothers have become unsustainable. What struck me most was how many comments came from people insisting that parents today have it easy. I don't think this is a competition! Every generation has faced challenges that the next one won't fully understand. Our parents may have dealt with pressures that seem unimaginable to us. But many families today are facing their own realities: two incomes are often essential, childcare is expensive, grandparents are working longer, and we're trying to juggle careers, parenting, relationships, household responsibilities, health and everything else life throws at us. Acknowledging that modern motherhood can be overwhelming isn't saying previous generations had it easier. It's saying that support matters because burnout doesn't care how old you are, what generation you're from, or whether someone else thinks they had it harder. Maybe instead of comparing struggles, we could make it easier for people to say,

Because if 93% of mothers have experienced burnout, this isn't about one mum having a bad day. It's a conversation we should all be having. #tiredmum #mumlife #anxiety #burnout #mentalload
