Before putting such a serious allegation to the MD/CEO of NELFUND on national television, surely the minimum requirement is to establish that the allegation actually relates to NELFUND. Thankfully, Mr Sawyerr immediately challenged the claim and refused to allow it to pass into the public consciousness as fact. This is precisely why preparation matters. Journalists must interrogate NELFUND. Ask difficult questions. Examine its figures. Challenge its management. Hold it accountable for every naira entrusted to it. But DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST. Confusing NELFUND with an entirely different government programme while discussing billions of naira is not rigorous journalism. It risks misleading millions of Nigerians watching at home. A television platform as influential as @channelstv carries enormous responsibility. Political suspicion must never become a substitute for research, and allegations must never be presented without establishing their factual foundation.
