I think the way we talk about racism is always to minimalize the history of colonization and its impact on how we view skin color. Racism becomes a blanket word for prejudice and that watering down makes people submit to the idea that "People were always racist" "Slavery always existed" etc when those types of prejudices and human sufferings in the past were simply not at the scale of a western colonized world.

Russia has a similar issue with Westernization. Since the early 1700s Russia has been in a cycle of trying to copy the West, feeling slighted anyway, building resentment, lashing out, then trying again. It's locked the country into centuries of viewing itself solely in relation to the West.

Europeans literally invented the concept of race in the 17th to 19th century, there was no concept of "white" before the 17th century. Liberalism purposely built scientific racism in order to justify colonialism, when previously under 17th century European institutionalism, they said that any non-European society can only become rational if they adopt European 'rational institutions'.

It wasn't industrialization. Europe was exploring and conquering before industrialization. The Aztecs fell in 1521. The Incans fell by 1572. It wasn't till 1698 that steam engines were being used.

The last one was an interesting point because I honestly feel like Afghanistan does seem actually horrible for women. I don't think the US going in again would help at all but I do feel like they do deserve help Idk. I am very conflicted.
