So here’s a brief run down of my story from the start but not to the finish! Back in Feb 2019 I fell off a ladder hanging balloons - wrong ladder, too much pressure, and one moment that changed my life forever. I landed on both feet and broke both ankles. One side was pretty much destroyed. The months after were chaos - surgery, metalwork, casts, painkillers, two tiny kids (20 months and 3 years old), and a new business I’d just started. I couldn’t access my own house and our family of 4 plus a doggy ended up in temporary accommodation for months. I was told I’d never walk properly again… but I did. Slowly, awkwardly, but I did. Over the years I’ve been determined to keep going whilst doing endless research, getting first and second opinions, more surgery and even more opinions 🙈 but it’s now reached the point where I’ve been told nothing more can be done. Too much damage, arthritis, dead bone and too much pain which is only getting worse. For a long time I thought I’d wait until I physically couldn’t walk anymore before choosing amputation. But the more I’ve learned, the more Ive realised that waiting will only make things harder - more painkillers, more damage to my other joints, and a tougher recovery overall. I want to go into this strong - mentally and physically, not exhausted by pain before I even start. So…I made the decision a couple of weeks ago to go ahead with an amputation. It’s not something Ive decided on lightly, but the goal is to be more active, live without constant pain, and not have to say to my kids “sorry, Mummy can’t” anymore. I’m now on the 6-12 month waitlist and honestly… I’m ready. The plan is to be stronger than I’ve ever been and be one step ahead, ready for rehab! I’m actually excited to get my life (and mobility) back. Here’s to what’s next 🥰 #amputationjourney #ankleinjury #resilience #newbeginnings #movingforward
