I drive a pickup, not close to a semi, but I collected a whole line of ducklings in a snowstorm in Colorado one year. No one had any idea they were being guided by a very confident teenage girl who took defensive driving courses. 😅

As a trucker, I have never had ducks myself but other drivers I’ve spoken to about the subject are happy to guide them. We are heavy enough to push through the layer of water on the ground causing us to have less chances to Hydroplane. With our size we can be seen by everyone most of the time creating a rolling leader. I just warn anyone to try and be seen by our mirrors on the sides and to not stay too close. I would happily guide people out of the storm, but you need to be aware of my decisions and limits before i can help.

Kinda related. I tuck in behind trucks in the travel lane on the highway when I don’t know where I’m going so I don’t get honked at for going slower. My first day of grad school, I followed a truck from my on ramp all the way to my exit. My emotional support truck. I miss my emotional support truck

I followed a truck in a storm that even the truck drivers said was one of the worst they’ve seen (one said he’s been driving for 25 years). I was so grateful for that truck. I could barely see the brake lights. It was terrifying. I was a very grateful duckling! 🐥

I drove rigs for a year, hubby is at 12 years now. Folks, most truckers are good people who wanna help. Just remember, if you can't see their mirrors, they can't see you. And pumping your arm for the air horn will always make them smile! Trucking is a lonely job. And people being kind and interacting with them this way makes them feel a little less alone.

If you do this, MAKE SURE THE TRUCK DRIVER SEES YOU. My dad was a trucker and when we would be in the truck, he'd have ducklings in heavy rain. He always protected them IF HE COULD SEE THEM, but its extremely dangerous to do this if the trucker doesnt know. If you cant see their mirrors, they cant see you.

A trucker collected me during a snow storm 10 years ago and he left me with a plow who got me to my exit. It was over 10 years ago and I think about it all the time.

If I’m travelling late at night on the highway I stay with the semis the whole way. Always felt safer this way traveling alone!

I always follow trucks (at a respectable distance) in storms or when I am going through construction zones or a busy area I've never driven through. Especially when I am driving a Uhual. They save me every time.

I’ve posted this comment before but I once followed behind a trucker for miles and miles down I-95 in a torrential downpour. When he finally took his exit, he gave me a quick “toot toot” and blinked his lights at me. I felt like it was his way of saying “you got this, girl be safe!”

I love being a duckling! No one gets mad at me when I’m going slow as hell behind a semi 😂🤣 they assume I’m annoyed at the semi too, meanwhile I’m crying with happiness that I found mama

I avoid big trucks in the rain but you can bet this little duckling is finding a big mama duck if I have to drive in the snow 🤣

You can buy radios to communicate with trucks btw, just make sure you state you’re not a trucker

I had a 2 hour drive home after a long work day on set. Torrential rain. I tucked behind a truck for an hour and a half of the drive. When I hit my exit and signaled he pushed cone buttons and all the lights on his truck did this like little Xmas tree thing and sparkled. I honked a funny little song. I still think about dude who probably was just happy to get 20 yr old terrified looking me in her shitty car home safe.
