I love this parallel because these two shots are both so similar and so different. Both use the technique of a lateral tracking shot. In Up, the camera movement is very objective and isn’t motivated by character movement. Instead, it brilliantly uses the movement from left to right to reveal the sad news and show the passage of time. While in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the camera follows the character’s movement and creatively uses the colorful wall at the entrance to symbolize his creativity, before switching to cold, gray colors as soon as he steps into work, reflecting his dull work life.
