Muscle spasticity with MS can feel like my muscles are working against me. Sometimes they tighten up, get stiff, burn, lock up or just refuse to relax. Then on the flip side, my knees may randomly give out, my hip won’t cooperate or my hands suddenly feel weak. 🫠 Muscle issues are incredibly common with MS but that doesn’t always make them easy to understand or track, especially when your body seems to be doing two completely opposite things. Sometimes MS punches you in the heart in the smallest ways… For months I’ve been blaming my earrings. I thought they were harder to put in, they were to thick, to small so it was harder to hold, harder to get through my ears… and this morning it finally hit me. It’s not the earrings… It’s my hands… Something as simple as putting in earrings requires fine motor skills, coordination, positioning my fingers without really seeing what I’m doing & being able to FEEL what my hands are doing. & somewhere along the way, that quietly became harder for me. I didn’t even notice it. I think this is a part of living with MS that’s hard to explain. You don’t just grieve once when you’re diagnosed. Sometimes you grieve again when you realize something you’ve done without thinking your entire life suddenly requires thought, effort or help. I’ll adapt. I always do.
