The Serapeum: A daughter library located at the Temple of Serapis was likely destroyed in 391 AD when Christian authorities demolished pagan temples. While civilization wasn't thrown into a dark age, we did lose a massive amount of cultural heritage. Historians estimate we lost hundreds of ancient plays, unique regional histories, and alternative philosophical perspectives that were never copied outside of Egypt.
