If your flight is cancelled, your airline must offer you a choice between a refund or an alternative flight to get you to your destination. Depending on the circumstances, that can include putting you on another airline. 🍔 Food and drink: If you’re left waiting, your airline has a duty of care and should provide reasonable food and refreshments. 🏨 Hotel accommodation: Stranded overnight because of the disruption? Your airline should provide a hotel and transport between the airport and accommodation where required. 🧾 Keep your receipts: If the airline can’t arrange food, transport or accommodation and you have to pay reasonable costs yourself, keep your receipts so you can claim them back. 💷 Refunds and vouchers: You don’t have to accept a voucher instead of a refund if you’re entitled to your money back. ⏰ Delayed 5+ hours? For flights covered by UK passenger rights, if your flight is delayed by at least five hours, you can choose not to travel and claim a refund for the affected flight – and potentially other parts of the same booking that you can no longer use. 🏖️ Package holiday? If your flight is part of a package holiday, speak to your tour operator as well, as they have responsibilities for your package. And remember: compensation is separate from your right to care, rebooking or a refund.
