the fact he knocked up a prostitute and instead of being a scumbag he would come by regularly to give them money and hang out with his son. he wasn't around all the time but he did truly try and loved his boy... 💔 then seeing John abandon his own son pissed him off so much. people give Arthur grief over being "harsh" to John. honestly he wasn't mean enough

"you mean Lenny?" and Lenny was probably around the age Arthur's son would have been 😭😭😭😭

I completely disagree. It's such a pivotal event for his character, what little we're given redefines who Arthur is. The event solely explains his feelings, thoughts, and actions toward John, Jack, and Abigail. He's haunted by his past, and Arthur sees himself in them. Arthur's redemption is saving this entire family, something he didn't do when he absolutely could have.

This really didn't get the attention it deserved. Arthur's anger at John isn't about the fact that he left the gang for a year, but about him abandoning his family, including little Jack. Because for Arthur, having lost Isaac so young, the very idea that someone could do such a thing is just unthinkable. And it shows in how Arthur always softens up whenever children are involved (Mrs. Londonderry and her son, the soldier and his pregnant woman)

I think how little we hear about it is emblematic of how he deals with it. He shuts it away

Men tend to internalize their emotions. Particularly deep rooted ones. We weren’t taught how to express them properly, so we get angry, bitter, resentful. Arthur’s portrayals honestly better than anticipated.

What destroys me more is Isaac was originally supposed to die in chapter 1 on the way to Colter, and we would've seen Arthur's reaction to his death

John also lost a daughter at some point. They never really said if it was before or after RDR2 though

Its because he doesn't open up emotionally very often because of his personality and responsibilities

to think they had a plan to have part of the prologue beginning showing Arthur losing his son to winter cold but they decided to not do that because they felt it would be to much depression to start the game on

So people wanna hear him yapping abt his son every mission? It’s will be less impact if he always do that , he doesn’t need to tell how he felt abt it , bc we already know it by his actions

As someone who has lost a kid in similar fashion. Arthur is great example how how you don’t understand men’s emotions. You can see the impact. They don’t need to specifically point to it and be like “HERES THE IMPACT”.

I think it’s because Arthur doesn’t like to talk about Issac or Elisa because of the trauma and how some could do that

The reveal of it provides a lot of retroactive context tho. It’s why he cares sm about what John does. I feel like dwelling on it much more would’ve been ham-fisted

It’s heartbreaking that Arthur died for John so that he could save his brothers family after he’d already lost his own, only for John to still die, and for Jack to go down the same dark path of an outlaw
