I hate how these people use Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia, etc as examples of places with godless injustice. We have that right here in North America

Not to mention most of those places are suffering because of colonialism and capitalism. They are not just suffering from “bad luck” it’s real impact that bigger countries have on vulnerable communities because they don’t care for their wellbeing only what money they can make from the harm.

I agree with everything you said...but the title card over the video says "Belief is emotion not reason". I just think it's not a great take because it implies that there are separate modes of thinking called emotion and reason. Emotion couldn't exist without reason, if you think of emotion as a response we reach that response (even if subconsciously) by processing memories and predicting possible future outcomes in order to build that emotional conclusion. I do like that you mentioned being overwhelmed in our feelings, and I think that is a much better framing of what's going on, because it isn't that these folks are acting unreasonable, it's perhaps more accurate to say being overwhelmed is informing their reasoning process. To put this in perspective, a person with PTSD is not acting upon an "emotional belief", they are presumably acting within reason to something they have perceived as a threat. This is not to let religious folks off the hook or to imply they all have PTSD or something, it's just to point out that emotion and reason are inseparable, they evolved together as survival mechanisms, it's not just that neither can operate in a vacuum, neither of them exist in a vacuum. Lest anyone think I'm excusing the religious folks behaviour, I will also say that if your belief is a coping mechanism that is causing harm or creating justifications to ignore harms and their root causes, stop it, because you also have a moral responsibility to your fellow humans to challenge harmful beliefs, irrespective of how you arrived at those beliefs.

real easy to watch the limbs get blown off children and mud consume entire neighbourhoods when you can think "wow, I really am god's favourite, look at all the lessons he's giving me to show how favoured I am"

Religion allows them to not have to worry about others as much. Their little god will take care of others after they 💀 so it's not that bad if people suffer in life.

💯 A restatement of Marx: “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.” i e. A coping mechanism

I hate that “logic” because as you said it just makes the issues unsolvable. Oh well, god must want things this way. Nothing I can do. When if we accept that there is no god, it’s only us, then we have the power and ability to change things. Belief they way she describes, just sounds like an excuse to do nothing

How in the fuck can she trip over the knowledge of these people are suffering and these countries can't help but not realize or try to figure out that it's not being underserved but these African countries are overexploited by the US empire and those like it.
