While Oom remained fast asleep on the bed, Oom’s mother quietly sweeping up the shattered glass, blood-stained, and broken pieces scattered across the floor. Beside the bed, Bam on the carpet, a bowl of warm water, clean towels, and a first-aid kit placed beside her. Tears streamed silently down Bam’s face as she used a damp cloth to gently wipe the blood from Oom’s tiny hands and bare feet, heart shattering with every tiny cut she disinfected and bandaged. Oom’s mother paused her sweeping, watching Bam’s trembling hands with a heavy sigh before walking over and placing a soft hand on Bam's shoulder. "She almost stopped living, Bam," Oom’s mother murmured softly. "Every single day, she wouldn't eat, wouldn't speak, wouldn't look at anyone. All she did was cry for you until her body gave out." Bam looked up, red, tear-swollen eyes meeting Oom's mother's gaze. "I thought, I thought staying away would protect her, Mae. I thought if I disappeared, her mind would rest and she wouldn't suffer anymore. I was so stupid." "You were trying to protect her," Oom's mother said gently, wiping a stray tear from her own cheek. "But love isn't something you can protect her from by running away. Her heart remembers you, even if her mind is still confused. Don't leave her again, Bam. I can't watch my daughter break like that a second time." "I won't," Bam sobbed softly, kissing the back of Oom's freshly bandaged hand. "I'm never letting her go again." Just then, Oom woke up gasping, chest heaving as if she had just escaped a terrifying nightmare, eyes wild with panic as she scrambled into a sitting position. "Bam! Bam!" Oom oice broken as fresh tears immediately spilled down her cheeks. "I'm right here, baby," Bam moving to sit on the edge of the mattress. She gently held Oom's face, looking directly into her frantic eyes. "I didn't leave. Look at me, I'm right here." "I thought you were just a dream, I thought I woke up alone again." Oom sobbed, hands clutching at Bam's sleeves. "I'm real, Oom," Bam whispered, softly wiping the tears from Oom's cheeks with her thumbs as Oom stared at her intently, drinking in every feature of her face to convince herself it was true. "Are you hungry?" Bam asked lovingly, brushing a soft strand of hair behind Oom's ear. Oom nodded weakly. But the second Bam began to stand up to fetch something, Oom gasped and lunged forward, grabbing Bam's wrist tightly, panic flashing in her dark eyes as if Bam were about to vanish into thin air again. "It's okay," Bam reassured her, turning back immediately to wrap her hand over Oom's. "Baby, let's go downstairs. I'll cook for you." Bam held her hand securely, intertwining their fingers, and Oom followed her out of the room and down the stairs, refusing to let go for even a single second. In the bright kitchen downstairs, Bam set Oom down on one of the high stools near the island counter. True to her promise, Oom kept one hand firmly anchored on the hem of Bam's shirt while Bam moved around the kitchen, preparing a warm bowl of minced pork congee with a soft-boiled egg. "You're going to burn yourself if you keep standing so close to the stove, baby," Bam teased softly, chuckling as she stirred the pot with one hand while holding Oom's hand with the other. "I don't care," Oom murmured, leaning her chin on Bam's shoulder from behind, watching the steam rise. "I just want to stay like this." Standing by the kitchen entrance, Lingling, Lena, and Orm, who had quietly lingered downstairs out of deep concern, watched the pair clinging to each other at the stove. Unable to help themselves, the three immediately started teasing them. "Look at that, Lena. One-handed cooking! Chef Bam is showing off her master skills today!" Orm squealed softly, nudging Lena with her elbow. "More like Chef Bam can't function if she isn't attached to Oom at the hip," Lena chimed in with a sly grin. "I didn't know your culinary degree included cooking while acting as a human backpack, Bam." #oomeisaya #bamsaralee #oombam
