the reason i say this is because fishman island sanji really isn’t as deep or complicated as people make him out to be. his behaviour in this arc isn’t some sudden change in his character, nor is it meant to be the entire point of his character. there is actual context behind why he’s acting the way he does, especially after the timeskip and everything that happened to him during it. the problem is that i feel like people saw the same few scenes, heard the same “fishman island ruined sanji” opinion repeated by the fandom, and just accepted it as fact without actually looking at what oda was trying to do with him. you don’t have to find his behaviour funny or even like how it’s written. i’m not saying you have to excuse it. but there’s a difference between criticising something sanji does and completely reducing his character to those scenes. fishman island sanji still has his usual personality, values and motivations… people just seem to forget all of that when talking about this arc. his blood nose gag was a thematic parallel, and his overall importance to the arc is ignored so much it’s insane. learn to understand past the surface level because he’s genuinely such a great character. and just to add, manga fishman island sanji isn’t even as bad as what toei portrayed him as. both the original anime and the remake of fmi exaggerate certain aspects of his behaviour, so if you actually want to understand what oda wrote, the manga is obviously the best place to start before you criticise sanji out of canon :/ i can expand on this more if anyone wants, in future i am doing a deep dive into analysis surrounding his character in this arc ^-^ i love him so much <3 #sanji #sanjixcookie #fishmanisland #ilovesanji #foryoupage
