It’s not a biblical verse, but I understand his desire to give a lot of money to family in need. I can’t blame him for the gesture, nor can I necessarily blame his family for squandering the money on nonessential things.
If you suddenly find yourself with an abundance of money, who can honestly say you’d make all the right financial decisions? Wealthy people haven’t always made the best decisions with their money either. The difference is that they often had the luxury of making mistakes while still having enough money, access, and opportunities to eventually invest and multiply what remained.
Financial discipline is important, but it’s a lot easier to recover from bad financial decisions when you have an abundance of resources.
