@limitedlessmind: RUMFA COLLEGE. Rumfa College began in 1927 as Kano Middle School. It was created during the colonial period as part of the developing system of Western education in Northern Nigeria. The school initially provided middle-school education and became an important institution for educating young people from Kano and other parts of the North. The school’s own historical record says it remained Kano Middle School for 27 years. Its early indigenous headmaster was Alhaji Abubakar Waziri Gidado, who served from 1927 to 1931. The institution went through several names as its role expanded: 1927 — Kano Middle School 1954 — Kano Provincial Secondary School 1964 — Native Authority Secondary School 1966 — Government Secondary School Kano 1970 — Government College Kano 1980 — Rumfa College, Kano The name Rumfa honours Muhammadu Rumfa, the famous Emir of Kano who ruled from 1463 to 1499. The old boys’ association also explains that “Rumfa” was chosen because of the Emir’s historical importance and because the word could symbolize shade or protection.
