Most of what he's famous for hadn't been written yet, and he had no way of knowing any of it was coming. And this is the one that stuck. Almost two hundred years later it's still the piece people mean when they say they like Chopin, still the one that turns up in films, still the one played badly in a thousand living rooms every evening and still lovely anyway. Timeless is an overused word. It means something specific here. It means a twenty year old wrote something that has outlasted every person who first heard it. The Satie EP came out yesterday.
