After tax, the total comes out to $73.62. The customer noticed and was clearly upset. So they deducted that exact amount from the tip section. In other words: the restaurant tried to force the tip and the customer clawed it right back. No sign on the door. No warning from the server. No explanation on the receipt. Just a quiet charge, betting most people won’t notice, won’t question it, or won’t want to argue. So tipping isn’t voluntary at certain places anymore. It’s enforced through surprise fees and social pressure. If restaurants need higher prices, why not just raise them? Or is this the easier way - charge it quietly and dare customers to speak up?
