Hyrox is in the headlines in its first major story after last weekend’s Hyrox Beijing event, and not for positive reasons: Australian pro athlete and fitness coach Joanna Wietrzyk suffered a major bout of diarrhea in the middle of the race. And not only was she not pulled out of the competition—but she managed to win her category. While fecal incontinence is a thing that happens during endurance sports, especially those that involve running such as marathons and triathlons (and even in mixed martial arts), the problem is that Hyrox is a closely shared space with communally used equipment. And as a competitor likely part of the early waves, there were a lot more people who were supposed to use the lanes and equipment Wietrzyk used during the race.
