Let them fund themselves. If Scotland and Wales want independence, then surely they should also take responsibility for raising the money needed to fund their own spending. The figures show that both have historically received more in public spending than they generate in tax revenue, with that shortfall ultimately being covered through the UK wide fiscal system. England is the largest contributor to that system, so why shouldn’t independence mean financial independence too? It could leave England with a stronger fiscal position and allow each nation to set its own priorities and live within its own means. They should also fund the cost of going it alone entirely.
