It’s rarely the luggage that bothers me. It’s the attitude. If a passenger has heavy luggage, I’ll usually help load it into the boot anyway. I even see it as a little exercise during my driving shift. But there’s a big difference between a passenger who politely asks for help and one who simply stands there expecting the taxi driver to do everything without saying a word. The same goes for passengers who get into the taxi, slam the door, refuse to acknowledge you and don’t even bother confirming the destination. As a Singapore taxi driver, I have to make sure I’ve picked up the right passenger, so I’ll still say,

A simple "Thank you" really doesn’t cost anything. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I think good passenger etiquette and basic respect still matter, especially when you're dealing with someone who is simply trying to get you safely from one place to another.
