Sustained interest gives children a reason to ask increasingly sophisticated questions, gather information, notice patterns, and build expertise. Each of these habits creates an environment in which children are constantly thinking. That's what makes an intellectually rich childhood — not a child being stuffed with information, but a child who is encouraged to wonder, investigate, explain, experiment, struggle, and discover. Each of which helps their minds become ever more capable.
