@charmys.garden: I used a couple different methods to plant my sweet potatoes. One was by burying an entire sweet potato, and the other was by taking "slips". Both patches are doing well, though I am not expecting many sweet potatoes this year. I live in florida. This half works for me, but it seems like each “plant” only really makes one or two large tubers and doesn’t store much more, the new roots don’t really make any. Also when i harvest, it kills the plant about a quarter of the time. I find its best to plant the slips densely

They do this themselves if you don't over-harvest bc the tubers have enough carbs to make it thru the winter underground. At most, leave some tubers & mulch in fall.
