here's my take because no one understands what adaptation means. he took a journal entry Leon picked up at the gas station and read that story out loud and we are seeing it as he reads it. it was fun scary and awesome

Would you say it's an adaptation of a genre, rather than a franchise? Like, you could call this movie Alone in the Dark or Silent Hill...would make zero difference, and I don't think many folks would point that out...

literally no other adaptation has done anything close to this. cyberpunk is just an anime inside night city, it's like adapting a book into a game. arcane is an even more egregious example lol. the resi movie is on another level.

SPOILERS AHEAD‼️As someone who hasn’t played the games, I had zero idea what to expect and I didn’t realize RE were zombie games so the part with the dog made me genuinely scream in the theater because I wasn’t expecting it at all lmao.

I’ve never played RE but this movie was so good. It really did feel like a video game in the best ways. I just assumed it was a zombie film so the scene with the dog had me deeply confused like Brian.

I think if you think the only thing required to be a “good” resident evil adaptation is raccoon city, zombies, umbrella, and parodying the basic mechanics, gameplay tropes, and player fumbles, you have a very narrow perspective on resident evil as a whole.

My only issue is that the word "adaptation" comes with an expectation that he was never planning to fulfill. He said "adaptation" and everyone expected him to turn one of the games into a movie (something the fan base has been wanting for a long time).
