Sometimes I'm tempted to think that I have to do a lot to make my kids happy, but truth is, kids are simple! They don't want a lot, just love and quality time :) Spending more time with Sarah is a big goal of mine. I committed to spend more time with Jay a year ago, and that was one of the best decisions I'd made. We get a lot of grief for saving ALL the horses, not just the young and sound ones with bright futures. Ernie was probably present at the destruction of the dinosaurs and just narrowly escaped— that’s how old she is, but she is also as loyal and gentle as they come. She loves attention. She loves people. Despite her previous owners betrayal of dumping her into slaughter after she lost (most) of her teeth due to old age complications. Ernie is a lucky girl because we were there to save her, and now she doesn’t have to beg for attention anymore. She receives it daily. Ernie is why we continue to save every horse we possibly can— no matter their age or “deemed” usefulness. Every life matters. Every soul deserves to be here. Ernie deserves a good and compassionate passing when it is her time, not a fearful death in a slaughter house. It makes me sick to think of this sweet old lady trustingly following those men in that facility to her death by captive bolt designed for cows. I’m so glad it ended differently for her. She is safely inside our sanctuary and will remain there until she is called to heaven— an angel returning home. #CCRErnie #colbyscrew
