R E S P E C T for the unpaid invisible work of caring for a home and caring for children… I’m re-reading Fair Play by Eve Rodsky right now in preparation for our upcoming Holding Space podcast interview. My husband and I use the card game that accompanies her book quarterly, and it has helped us honor and divide our household tasks in a way that feels good to both of us. It’s not about “winning” in the traditional sense, it’s about rebalancing our roles and reconnecting to each other. We acknowledge that some tasks are more of a daily grind sort of thing (dishes and cooking- he holds those cards right now) and some aren’t visible but bring about a lot of open tabs in your brain (like planning and managing appointments and activities- I hold these cards right now).
