I never understood the hate his character caught. Alot of people dont realize that Gene Roddenberry made the character of Wesley Crusher because he saw himself very much in that character, a smart kid that could stand on his own. Gene Roddenberrys middle name was Wesley, that's how much he saw himself in that character.
