Vaping vs smoking: what actually reaches your lungs? 🫁 Both involve inhaling something. But what goes in is not the same, and the difference starts with one word: fire. 🚬 A cigarette BURNS tobacco. The tip hits up to 900°C, and that fire creates thousands of new chemicals that were never in the leaf. Cigarette smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, and about 70 of them are known to cause cancer. Two matter a lot: • Tar: the sticky brown residue that coats your lungs • Carbon monoxide: the same gas as car exhaust. It grips your red blood cells about 200× more strongly than oxygen, so your blood carries less oxygen. 💨 A vape HEATS a liquid instead. There's no flame, so there's no tobacco tar and no carbon monoxide from fire. But it isn't
But it isn't "just water vapor." The mist carries nicotine, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavoring chemicals and sometimes traces of metal from the coil, as particles small enough to reach deep into your lungs. So what's the verdict? ✅ An adult smoker who switches COMPLETELY to vaping is generally exposed to fewer harmful chemicals. ⚠️ Lower risk doesn't mean harmless. The aerosol can still irritate your airways, nicotine is addictive, and the long-term effects are still being studied because vapes are so much newer than cigarettes. ❌ If you don't smoke, starting to vape isn't a health upgrade. You're adding chemicals, and possibly an addiction, that weren't there before. The easy way to remember it: Smoking = burning. Vaping = heating. Smoking is generally more harmful, but vaping is not clean air. Your lungs were designed for one thing: breathing air. 🌬️ Did anything here surprise you? Tell me in the comments 👇 Save this for later, and send it to someone who still thinks vapes are "just water vapor." This is general education, not medical advice. If you want to quit smoking or vaping, talk to a healthcare professional; they can help. #vaping #smoking #lunghealth #quitsmoking #healthscience
