I use to tell my middle school boys to imagine someone was doing that to their mother. Or if I knew they had a sister I would say, How would you feel if that was your sister?

Plenty of boys had sisters but still grew up to be misogynists. It’s more about how they see women/girls are talked about or treated than just having sisters.

I believe making it human and not girl/boy behavior helps. My son is an only child and does not have the same mentality as others.

I think you’re onto something. I would also argue that the parents’ have a huge role in how they view girls. Kids see how their parents treat or speak about girls.

I'm confused. Do you think that boys with only brothers grow up in a vacuum where there are no girls? There are no female cousins, neighbors, classmates, friend's sisters, ... ? They don't have a mother, grandmother, or aunt? If boys don't see girls as people just because they don't have a sister, then girls who don't have brothers shouldn't see boys as people. And boys with sisters make objectifying comments too. So what we end up with is that many boys objectify girls. This is encouraged by the patriarchy and excused or rationalized by many adults.

I think parents’ attitudes and how consistent they correcting misogyny/sexism/ patriarchy matters more than if a boy has a sister. My brother essayed me my entire childhood, for him having a sister was just a built in victim that could never escape.

Middle school was hell for me. I was assaulted by three boys that was a home invasion and it was three boys I had been friends with for years. Walked home with for years. The next time was actually repetitive assaults inside the school. Feet away from a teacher. The principal wouldn’t do shit. Thought it was no big deal.

My son 14 has a sister 12. He has so many girl friends. My daughter had boy friends until 7 th grade. She finally has girl friends

I have often found twins to be the same age. So interesting lol. But seriously we raised 3 boys to respect women. First they learned to respect me, then to open doors for women etc (old school I know) but now as adults they fully respect women. Not just sib groups, it’s about parental view of women
