@sasquatchfilescanada: NORTH OF GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALBERTA 🇨🇦 April, 2004. An Emergency Medical Responder was finishing a job roughly 70 km southwest of Grande Prairie, Alberta, near the end of Red Rock Road. Spring breakup had begun and road bans were coming into effect, so most of the crews had already cleared out. By the time she finally left, it was around 4:00 in the morning. She had already been awake for nearly 21 hours. Knowing how much wildlife travelled those roads, she kept her speed around 30–40 km/h. Her medical unit was mounted on a Dodge Ram, and the high beams lit up the road, snowbanks and timber on either side. There was no moon. Only starlight reflecting off the remaining snow. A few kilometres past an abandoned rig camp, the road curved through thick timber before opening into a flatter area. She slowed even more. Then suddenly— an elk exploded out of the darkness. A large five-point bull came over the berm from the right side and landed only a few feet in front of her truck. She slammed on the brakes. But something was wrong with the elk. It took only a couple steps before stopping directly in front of her. It was completely winded. Its nose was raised as though struggling for air, its tongue hung from its mouth and its eyes appeared rolled back. It stood there panting for several seconds before lowering its head and slowly walking toward the left side of the road. She didn’t immediately continue. Where there was one elk, there could be more. So she searched the roadside with her headlights, watching for movement or reflected eyes. That’s when something caught her attention. On the right side of the road, beyond the cleared area, something looked like a tall tree stump. Except… it moved. At first she thought the movement might have been fur blowing in the breeze. Then she looked closer. Whatever she was seeing had a rounded head. No obvious ears. No visible face. And shoulders so wide she realized it couldn’t possibly be a stump. Her next thought was a bear. Probably a grizzly. That explanation made sense. Until it stood up. Not like a bear awkwardly balancing on its hind legs. The figure seemed to unfold into an upright position in one smooth movement. And then it simply stood there. She estimated it was only about 10–12 metres from the road. Her headlights illuminated its lower body, while the upper portion disappeared into darkness. She estimated it stood somewhere around seven to eight feet tall. The creature turned its upper body toward the east, appearing to look farther down the road. Then its arms dropped. And that was the moment everything changed for her. The arm looked incredibly long, hanging much lower than a human arm normally would. At the end wasn’t a paw. She could make out what appeared to be a large hand. The body looked dark—almost blackish brown—with enormous shoulders and a massive frame. And suddenly the frightened elk made sense. She began feeling an overwhelming sense that she needed to leave. Her heart was racing. The hair on her body stood up. She carefully began moving the truck forward. Then she saw the figure take another step toward the road. That was enough. She drove away. From the moment the elk burst onto the road until she finally pulled away, she estimated the entire encounter lasted only 20–25 seconds. But those seconds stayed with her. She had spent years working in Alberta’s oilfields and was familiar with the wildlife there—elk, deer, black bears, grizzlies, wolves, coyotes, cougars and lynx. This didn’t move like any of them. And somewhere along a frozen oilfield road southwest of Grande Prairie, in the darkness before sunrise… she became convinced she’d seen a Sasquatch. 👣🇨🇦 Story adapted from BFRO Report 65238.
