One of the hardest things I learned after quitting drinking was that alcohol hadn’t necessarily made my problems disappear. Sometimes, it had just made them quieter for a few hours. You can drink because you’re lonely. Because you’re angry. Because you’re grieving. Because you’re stressed. Because you don’t want to think about tomorrow. And for a little while, it might work. The thoughts soften. The feelings become easier to ignore. The night passes. But eventually the bottle is empty. And whatever you were trying not to feel is still there. That was uncomfortable for me to realise, because removing alcohol didn’t magically remove everything underneath it. In some ways, it made those things harder to ignore. I had to learn how to sit with uncomfortable emotions instead of immediately trying to change them. To talk. To reflect. To understand what I was actually running from. And that takes time. This isn’t about saying everyone who drinks is secretly hiding from something. It’s about asking an uncomfortable question: When I reach for a drink, what am I actually looking for? Relief? Confidence? Connection? Escape? Silence? Sometimes the answer tells us far more than the drink itself. You don’t have to wait until everything falls apart before becoming curious about your relationship with alcohol. Sometimes change begins with simply being willing to look. 💚 Which uncomfortable truth hit you the hardest? #OneLessPint #Sobriety #SoberLife #AlcoholFree #SoberCurious
