my guess someone in bethel needed a blood transfusion and they changed the rules. it’s sick.

There’s more changes coming.. My brother knows someone in Bethel.. Birthdays are going to be a conscience matter and it will only be Sunday meeting, no more weekday meetings

Everybody that I know who was a Jehovah’s Witness know somebody who passed away because they were not allowed to accept blood transfusions. This is great, but also why did this rule exist in the first place?

I am an OR nurse. We dread having JW patients because they won’t let us do our job. I’m glad you are speaking on this. We talked about it all day today. IT MAKES NO SENSE!!!! So hard to understand how people fall for this shit!

My dad hasn’t been JW in 40 years but STILL says to never give him a transfusion. I broke this news to him and now he’s spiraling. They did irrevocable damage 😔

As an EX-JW and 8 year healthcare worker, a “whole blood transfusion” is EXTREMELY rare. 99% of the time a blood transfusion will be a component(s) of blood, not “whole blood”. The wording they use is purposefully misleading as to avoid legal consequences due to the amount of people who’ve died refusing blood

I had a 3 year old niece with leukemia. The hospitals tried to override the decisions of the HLC and administer blood anyways, but her parents sued them in court and appealed. She died a year later. This literally happened in 2023. I’m so mad right now, my husband and I left in 2023 and are the only family members out right now, I feel sick for everyone who has lost loved ones because of this issue.

If someone was previously shunned bc they had a transfusion, do they get accepted back into the faith?

As someone who was also raised in a high demand religion it’s such a weird feeling when the “doctrine” changes. You’re happy for them but also so pissed. Religion is so damaging.

having grown up mormon, I feel this in my bones. god has changed his mind a whole lot lately (nothing to do with membership numbers, no no!) and the way girls are growing up in the church is not at all the same, restrictive experience it was for me. I'm happy for them, but also endlessly angry that that "revelation" wasn't there in time for me.

Thank you for speaking out about this! The blood doctrine was truly a core doctrine, which makes it even more shocking to see how nonchalantly they’ve handled this change. So many people made life altering decisions based on this teaching. 💔

I grew up terrified that if I was ever in a place where I needed blood - my parents would let me die.

Grew up jehovas witness up until my teen years. Seeing this all come out even though I’m no longer one it left me feeling so confused. My mom passed being a loyal follower, I don’t know exactly how to feel. 💔 this religion ruined so many things… I’m so upset about it.

Would of loved to have known this two months ago when my aunt passed away from refusing blood. Even had elders at the hospital making sure her wishes were heard.

I was also raised JW, and am also in bad standing (disapproved due to not being baptized). I just wish my mom would wake up from it. Thankfully she has never shunned me or my siblings, but she still tries to preach it to me from time to time. It really is a terrible cult that keeps its members uneducated and reliant on it. Been out for 18 years and would never go back.
