They make the same bracket,but you support it thru the roof down to the top plate of your wall. Way stronger system

No. The correct post should pass through the decking to framing underneath. With flashing, & guards, to prevent water from getting under shingles.

They make better brackets that sit on top of the 2x4 top plate and extend through the roof deck and you add a boot around it to seal roof penetration and its load bearing

Please don't put it on shingles. Not only will there be water damage but your design will also trap snow and ice right there on the roof.

that bracket it's supposed to come with a rubber boat that you put underneath it when you get ready to screw it down on the roof and the screws are supposed to have rubber gaskets on it too to keep any leaks from going through that roof
