The tower is officially known as the Makkah Royal Clock Tower and forms the centerpiece of the Abraj Al-Bait Endowment complex. The four faces are among the largest and highest-positioned clock faces in the world. The scale is difficult to appreciate from photographs because the tower itself is enormous. The clock is placed hundreds of metres above ground, so when you stand around the Haram area and look toward it, the clock face appears gigantic against the surrounding buildings. The clock also functions as an important visual time reference for the area. Because of its extraordinary height, it can be seen from considerable distances around Makkah. 🌙 The illuminated clock At night, the clock becomes even more distinctive. The clock faces are illuminated using approximately one million LED lights, producing the characteristic bright appearance that can be seen from around the city. The illumination makes the tower particularly prominent after sunset.
