Some of y'all are blow-FRYING hair instead of blow-DRYING it. Ladies, your hair should NOT smell burnt after a blowout. And if you're seeing clouds of smoke coming off your hair while someone is drying it, that's something worth questioning. After 20 years behind the chair, one of my biggest pet peeves is watching a blow dryer nozzle being shoved directly into the hair and round brush, blasting concentrated heat into one spot. The airflow should travel along the hair shaft, not be forced straight down into the brush with the nozzle pressed against it. And fellow hairstylists, you know that high-pitched sound the dryer makes when you press the nozzle directly into the brush? That's often a sign you're restricting the airflow. The hot air can't move freely, and all that concentrated heat can potentially overheat and damage the hair. You don't need to cook the hair to get it smooth and shiny. Proper airflow, controlled tension, and appropriate heat will give you a beautiful finish without unnecessary heat exposure. Now, a little visible vapor can sometimes be moisture or product evaporating, so it doesn't automatically mean the hair is burning. But a persistent burnt smell, excessive heat, or actual smoke should never be dismissed as normal. We're supposed to be styling hair, not roasting it. Clients, have you ever left a salon with your hair smelling burnt? And stylists, have you noticed this technique behind the chair? #HairstylistEducation #BlowDryTechnique #HealthyHair #ProfessionalHairstylist #SalonG
