@scottaltiparmak: I know “you should actually care about cybersecurity” sounds obvious, but that’s not really my point. Cybersecurity has been marketed as a career almost anyone should consider because of the salaries, demand and opportunities. What gets left out is how difficult the path to those outcomes can be. Breaking in is hard. The amount you need to learn is enormous. Technology constantly changes. Burnout is real. And you’re entering a field full of people who will spend their Friday night building a lab, researching some obscure vulnerability or messing with Linux simply because their brain enjoys figuring this stuff out. That doesn’t mean you need to have been hacking computers since you were 12. And it definitely doesn’t mean you can’t start from zero. It means I wouldn’t choose this career purely because someone told you it’s a good career. If technology genuinely makes you curious, cybersecurity can be an incredible field. If it doesn’t, there are plenty of great careers I’d recommend before this one. Part of what I want to do on this platform is show you the cybersecurity industry I actually experience, not just the version that gets sold on social media. #cybersecurity #infosec #cybersecuritycareer
AI is basically doing everything in IT that isnt GRC.

I want to go into pentesting and low-key spend all my free time tinkering and playing / building project / hacking things. Studying for certs, looking at threat Intel. And even helped my classmates find, patch vulnerabilities in cloud environments, web applications. And even in my class created a multi tenant SIEM, to help my team and classmates monitor there web app servers that where public.

I never did that well in school, so learning cybersecurity in my first year of cc has been difficult! I have a hard time retaining the information. Sometimes i feel bad because i’m not like a obsessed nerd about this stuff so i think i’ll fall behind. Though i have persistence i will make it

advice to anyone who wants to go into pentesting: do binary exploitation, the learning curve IS huge but it is 1: the most fun you will have out of any cyber security adjacent career. 2: its the best most in need form of offensive cyber security
