🚨 Is Singapore’s job market starting to crack? Singapore retrenchments surged to 4,620 in Q2 2026 — the highest level since Q4 2020. At the same time, job vacancies are falling, long-term unemployment is edging up, and fewer retrenched workers are finding another job quickly. The most worrying signals are not just the headline layoffs: * Retrenchments jumped sharply from 3,830 to 4,620 in one quarter * Only 54.9% of retrenched residents found work within six months, down from 60.7% * Job vacancies fell from 73,300 to 68,600 * PMET vacancies weakened particularly in financial services and information & communications * Restructuring is hitting sectors including manufacturing, finance and technology-related industries Singapore’s overall unemployment rate remains low, but beneath that headline, the labour market is showing clear signs of softening. And there may be a much bigger structural issue developing: AI, automation, corporate restructuring and global cost-cutting could permanently change the kind of jobs available in Singapore. In this livestream, I will examine whether this is simply a temporary slowdown — or the beginning of a much tougher employment environment for PMETs, middle-aged workers and fresh graduates.
