The new law is not limited to child custody. A wife does not have the right to seek a divorce, and if the husband dies, the wife is not entitled to inherit from her husband, even if she contributed to his assets with her own money. It permits the marriage of a 9-year-old girl. It permits sexual acts involving a girl who is only a few months old. A child does not remain with the mother if she decides to remarry. The child remains with the mother if she does not remarry, but only during the first seven years of the child’s life. If the husband is absent, custody of the child is transferred to the husband’s family. The law applies under the Jaafari school of jurisprudence. BUTTTTT… a husband, regardless of which sect he belongs to, has the right to transfer his marriage contract to this law at any time he chooses, without his wife’s consent.
