North Star83 :
• Absence from Canonical Books: The story does not appear in any of the six major, most authentic Sunni hadith collections (known as the Kutub al-Sittah), including Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.
• Flawed Chains of Transmission: Traditional hadith critics and classical scholars, such as Ibn Kathir, state that the reports lack a sound and continuous chain of transmission (isnad) back to the Prophet Muhammad.
• Theological Infallibility: Mainstream Islamic theology upholds ismah—the belief that prophets are protected by God from making major errors or committing sins in delivering divine revelation. The idea that the Prophet Muhammad could mistake satanic temptation for divine words contradicts this core principle.
• Presence in Early Histories: The account does appear in early historical and biographical texts, such as the works of Ibn Ishaq and al-Tabari. Academic scholars like Shahab Ahmed have pointed out that early Muslims in the first two centuries of Islam frequently discussed or accepted the report before later orthodox standards formally filtered and rejected it.

Broderick :
Satanic verses were a fabrication because the early Muslims wouldn’t even be embarrassed about these verses, why? Because they wanted to say god would correct it immediately when it happens, which is what happened in the verses you’re quoting from. Which takes out the criteria of embarrassment.
