@iowa.repair.shop: I’M OVER THIS CAVEMAN SETUP 😂 This setup works, but there has to be something better out there. We’re looking for a charge air cooler test kit with fittings big enough for some of these larger applications. Something we can grab, hook up, pressurize and test without piecing together our current setup every time. What are you guys using? Drop your recommendations below! 👇 #IowaRepairShop #ChargeAirCooler #DieselRepair #TruckRepair #ShopTools #DieselMechanic #TruckingIndustry #OwnerOperator #HeavyDutyRepair #MechanicTok
Just talked to a machine shop and have them build a nice set of aluminum ones

Had the night foreman at my shop bring a customer back to show him the leak. The genius put far more than 50 PSI (Pretty sure it was close to 100) and almost got taken out when the plug sailed past his head. I think there is still a hole in the wall

i use male camlock caps, drill and tap the cap. then double clamp the boot. will hold 40psi without leaking, no problem
The expansion rubber kit works so much better, even if the size isn't quite what you're looking for it'll still expand enough when you squish it to take up the excess space

As for home made ones I work at a Kenworth dealership and we have a couple of testers that were made from a bad charge air cooler, the whole inlet was cut off and capped so it has the factory bead rolled edge

When I work at the International dealership in Sioux City we had the Navistar adapter kit, part #09-925-01C, one set of adaptors that works on multiple different sizes of cac boots and come with flusher adaptors as well. That worked really well for any Navistar motor obviously, but also ISX, L9, ISB, hell even older stuff like Series 60s and 3506s, basically anything that doesn't have a V-band style clamp like your Mack MP7/MP8 (ask me how I know). Definitely on the pricier side but might be worth looking into

Duralite makes a nice set I believe it has 5 different common sizes to use and then it comes with a cage to put on to protect incase a blow out occurs, comes in a case and is probably the best set up I’ve used

i like this one RW0090-11, it does 2-5/8" - 5". you can even test from turbo to intake manifold if they connect with v- clamps
