We have been trying, and trying, and trying since Eve, Abigail and Helena came into our care to get them as healthy and comfortable as we possibly can — and ultimately find each of them that very special home where they won't have to spend their lives in rescue pens. But I'm not going to lie… I'm worried. Winter in Wales can be hard, and Helena's pen heating still isn't working. The person who installed and wired the system has completely ghosted us despite numerous attempts to contact him, and we're now trying to work out how we can get it sorted safely. One of the lights has also gone, and we're hoping to tackle that ourselves this weekend. We had the electrics installed because the whole point was to make these pens warm, dry and safe for the cats. The extreme heat this summer has also damaged the plastic roofing, so we're desperately hoping we don't end up with leaks again this winter. And when a rescue has virtually nothing sitting in the bank, things like this become a massive worry. But there's something else that is really getting to us. We recently reached out across local social media to ask whether anyone local could offer one of these cats a long-term foster home. Their financial needs would be covered by us. Their food, veterinary care and ongoing costs would still be funded by KCC. We weren't asking someone to take on the financial burden. We were asking someone to give them a home. The post reached around 50 people and received only a handful of shares. No emails. No offers. Nothing. And this is how difficult it is becoming to move some rescue cats on. The people who are willing to take on cats with additional needs often already have cats, and unfortunately these aren't always the easiest cats to introduce into a multi-cat household. Which means there is a very real possibility that some of them will be facing another winter in their pens. And that absolutely breaks our hearts. Take Abigail. Abigail is FeLV+. She is currently showing no signs of the virus making her unwell and is otherwise a relatively healthy, happy cat. She LOVES her food, but she doesn't only cry for food. She cries for attention. She calls out to us because she wants company, affection and interaction. And as much as we adore her, we simply cannot sit in her pen for hours every day giving her the attention she craves. There are so many other cats here who need us too. And that is the heartbreaking thing about cats like Abigail. She hasn't done anything wrong. She didn't choose to be abandoned. She didn't choose to contract a virus that affects her immune system. She didn't choose to end up in rescue. So why should her life be considered less valuable because she has FeLV? She is here. She is healthy. She is affectionate. She wants to live. And we believe she deserves the chance to do exactly that. So we keep going. We keep getting them the veterinary care they need. We keep buying their special food. We keep caring for them every single day. We keep looking for the right homes. And we keep hoping that somewhere out there is the person who can give them what they need. Maybe you're an electrician who could help us get Helena's heating safely sorted. Maybe you could offer a long-term foster home. Maybe you could sponsor one of our kennel cats and help cover their food and care while they're waiting. Maybe you could adopt. Or maybe you can simply SHARE. Because sometimes sharing is what puts the right cat in front of the right person. We don't want these cats spending their lives in rescue pens. We want them warm. We want them loved. We want them safe. And we want them living their lives in homes, not waiting for somebody to notice them. We're tired. We're worried. And yes, sometimes we're completely bloody fed up. But we're still here. And we're still trying. Please help us keep trying. #RescueCats #CatRescue #FeLV #LongTermFoster #AdoptDontShop
