Girl just dump some flour and water in and call it a day. You don’t have to take it out and rehome it every single time 😭

give her a big ole feed! Measure the jar empty so you know how much is in it based on the weight all together. I have a jar thats 534g and when its 544 i know theres 10g of starter in it

after a while you start to get a feel for the consistency of your starter and eventually you’ll be able to eyeball feed her

You can feed at different ratios to get more starter your starter, most important thing is that you always feed at a minimum of 1:1:1 so equal parts all 3. The lower the ratio the quicker the starter will double - so say for example you want to make 2 loaves of bread, and your starter normally doubles within a few hours at a 1:1:1 ratio, feed it at a 1:8:8 ratio and you’ll have much more starter it’ll just take a little longer to double. Think of it as your starter needing to eat its way through what you feed it 🤣. Normally I feed my starter at a 1:1:1 every day so I don’t have to discard too much and then when I want to bake with it I feed at a higher ratio the night before, let it grow over night and then start the baking process in the morning. Does that make sense?! X

My fav ratio is 1:2:2 but you could literally do 1:10:10 if u rlly wanted to it just takes longer to eat it and be ready to bake with the higher you go

Def don’t have to do a 1:1:1. Measure how much of doughlene you have and double or even triple the water and flour if you want more of her!!

Feed it more than what you need for your recipe! I follow this: 30g starter 125 water 140g flour (this will give you 250g) you can use whatever you need for your recipe & then keep the rest as discard:)

Are you planning on using what’s left of your starter in the next day or so? If not, put it in an air tight container in the fridge and when you want to bake with it, feed it! You don’t need to be feeding it everyday if you’re not planning on using it!

Generally I feed 1:4:4. The less you feed your starter, the faster it will double. The more you feed, the longer it will take to double but the stronger it will get. Also 10/10 recommend feeding with whole wheat flour because it makes your starter so much stronger

Your starter is weak. Do 1:5:5 or even 1:3:5

You could make a starter with just the scrapings! A bigger ratio will take longer to eat through, maybe overnight. I usually just add my water shake it up and add However much flour I’ll need for my recipe ie 100grams etc.

Next just discard less and make a bigger 1:1:1 but always 1:1:1

I don’t measure mine I just mix to a cookie dough consistency. Do like a 1:3 or 1:4 radio of starter to flour. Then just add enough water to mix in all the flour and get it to that consistency. It will take her longer to eat though it. Like 6-8 hours

Learn how much your jar weighs! Weigh the whole jar and you’ll know how much starter there is by the difference!!

You could do a 1-3-3 ratio. So one part starter, 3 parts water and 3 parts flour. Takes longer to rise but will increase your starter.

When you’re making your next batch, take 35 g of starter put it in a bowl. Then 135 flour 135 water. And then that makes what you call 11 and it’s in your bowl so the morning you wake up and then you add your flower and water and then you make your actual loaf of bread. Instead of using the starter, you just expand your starter.
