@stripedlines: The striped bass bait calendar. Save this before your next trip. Six forage guides for Massachusetts + Cape Cod: River herring • sand eels • Atlantic mackerel • longfin squid • silversides • bunker When to look. Where to look. What size to look for. The detail that changes your approach: “herring” can mean a spring adult or a much smaller juvenile heading to sea. “Peanut bunker” and adult bunker are the same species at different stages. Read the temperature labels carefully. Some describe spawning water; sand-lance, mackerel and squid ranges describe historical bottom-trawl observations. Bunker includes a 1971 Rhode Island cooling study. They aren't universal arrival dates or bite triggers. Seasonal timing shifts with location and conditions. Sand-lance timing is specific to Stellwagen's northern sand lance. Mackerel and menhaden spawning windows are labeled coastwide. Use this to guide a search, then check what's actually in the water. This is the kind of biology we're building into StripedLines. Beta spots still available. Link in bio. Sources: MassWildlife / Mass. DMF; NOAA Fisheries / Stellwagen Bank; CT DEEP; Cargnelli et al.
