On August 6, 1945, U.S. Army Air Forces pilot Paul Tibbets took off aboard the B-29 bomber Enola Gay. Their mission was unlike any previous bombing mission. The aircraft carried “Little Boy,” the first atomic bomb ever used in warfare. The target was Hiroshima, Japan. At approximately 8:15 a.m. local time, the bomb was released over the city. Seconds later, a massive explosion devastated Hiroshima. Tens of thousands of people were killed immediately, while many more died in the following months and years from severe injuries and radiation-related effects. Decades later, Tibbets reflected on the mission, describing the preparation, the flight, and the moment the weapon was released. His recollections provide a firsthand perspective from the cockpit of one of the most consequential—and controversial—missions of the 20th century. Three days later, another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Japan announced its surrender on August 15, 1945, bringing World War II to an end. The events of August 1945 remain deeply debated and remembered because of their enormous human consequences. History isn't only about what happened—it is also about understanding the consequences. #Hiroshima ##tiktokgrowthchallenge #History #document #WorldWar2
