That is what commentator Matt Walsh wrote on X about Christa Pike, the Tennessee d*ath row inmate who survived her own execution. Pike, now 50, was sentenced to d*ath in 1996 for the January 1995 k*lling of Colleen Slemmer, a 19-year-old fellow Job Corps student, in a wooded area near Knoxville. Pike was 18 at the time. On September 30, 2026, Tennessee gave Pike two doses of lethal injection drugs. Neither dose k*lled her. She was taken to a hospital, and the AP later reported that she was conscious and speaking. New detail: Governor Bill Lee has halted every remaining Tennessee execution for 2026 and ordered an independent third-party review of what went wrong. Before the attempt, Pike had asked to be executed by an all-female firing squad. Tennessee law does not allow that method. Only five states authorize the firing squad.
